nvidia driver
I'm running lenny on an AMD64 machine, and want to load the closed source nvidia binaries.
What I need to know is, with lenny, do I need to stick with the older 173.14.09 drivers pkg? I can't use the most current driver, right? The pkg I'm looking at is
NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-173.14.09-pkg2.run
If anyone can help me with this, if this is the correct driver pkg, I would appreciate it. The card is a GeForce 8 series, by the way.
thanks,
m

You should be able to run the 177.82 driver that just came out with that card.

thx oz
I'll try that one.
Now, as far as installing the driver... I know people get upset when someone just asks questions w/out researching first but, believe me, I've researched this. And, like just about anything else, I find sites with 32 pages of installation instructions and sites with installation in 4 easy steps.
I have to admit that for the last year or so I've been lame and lazy and using Ubuntu. But then I found myself lame and lazy and bored, so I moved back to Debian. What I'm trying to say is that, though I'm not really a newb, I'm somewhat gun-shy getting into something I don't fully understand, and can't easily get myself out of.
So if anyone can offer suggestions and/or issues to watch out for, I would very much appreciate it.
thanks in advance,
m
