I am new user of linux and I have used a debian flavor on a old desktop. Is there a version of this that is suggested on a weak laptop
Is any other dist that is recommended to use instead.
compaq presarion 12xl500
celeron 766
320 ram
30 gb hardrive
right now I am using a dell true mobile wireless card .

Personally, I see nothing wrong with using Debian on a laptop, depending on what all you install.

I use Debian a lot. Infact, if you have a 686 kernel (installed by default on new Debian 4.0 installs), you can really get some good performance out of a old laptop.

If you want expert control over the install, boot a Debian Install CD/DVD with 'expert' at the boot: prompt.
