Install Firefox 3.04 on Debian 4.0 R5
Dear All,
I am new on Linux, I installed Debian 4.0 R5 on my machine and would like to us Firefox 3.04.
I download the file from Firefox website, I put all the files under the directory \opt\firefox after the tar file decompressed.
I have below error message when tried to run the Firefox:
We're sorry, this application requires a version of the GTK+ library that is not installed on your computer.
You have GTK+ 2.8.
This application requires GTK+ 2.10 or newer.
Please upgrade your GTK+ library if you wish to use this application.
Then I download the latest stable version (2.14.5) from the website, then decompressed it under \opt directory.
I create a another directory --> mkdir \opt\gtk214
I receive below result with error message when I enter --> ./configure --prefix=/opt/gtk214:

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables BASE_DEPENDENCIES_CFLAGS

See the pkg-config man page for more details.
Please advise how to resolve this error.
Thank you very much for your help in advance.

Dear bspujari,
Thank you vey much for your advise given.
Tried to follow shared information, but can't resolve the GTK version problem while start up the Firefox 3.04.
May be the problem cause by pkg-config, seeking for solution on how to check it.

Dear esteeming,
you do not have to configure gtk ... you just do :
dpkg-deb -x libgtk2.0-0_2.10.13-2~bpo.1_i386.deb gtk2-10
and then before starting the firefox do:
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/YOUR/PATH/TO/gtk2-10/usr/lib"
./firefox (in the directory containing firefox)
Hope that will work
