i am doing a netinstall of debian and during the network configuration it fails with the dhcp. i have tried doing the manaul setup and it didn't work i thought my router might not have been set up for dhcp so i bypassed it all together and plugged strait into my modem. still doesn't find any thing. what should i do to remedy this situation.

it sounds like your network card is not being detected by the debian setup, you might need to use a Lenny installer instead of an etch installer if your NIC's chip is too new to be detected by it
