Can NIC connect with internal modem?
Hi All,
I think my idea is crazy, but this is exactly what I want to achieve.
I wish to use my HP Pavilon as a DNS server for my home network (for playing around). The NIC on this system is connected to a cable modem that in turn connects to my ISP. I do not wish to add a second NIC (actually I cannot add a second NIC). So, I would like to use the internal modem to connect to a DSL modem/router for my LAN. Please, see attached sketch.
I have connected the DSL modem/router to the internal modem on the laptop, but there doesn't seem to be anything happening between them.
First of all, I would like to know how to make the NIC and internal modem communicate. Thereafter, I would like to know how to make the internal modem and the DSL modem (LAN).
Thanks.

> cannot add a NIC
why not? a pcmcia NIC is cheap enough--$5.00 on
eBay if you shop around.
laptop modem<-->DSL modem rj11 port physically OK,
but no go: the laptop modem uses analog signals as
do telephones, the DSL modem accepts digital
signals sent by your ISP over the telephone
network: the wires are the same, but electrically
they are quite different.the sun is new every day (heraclitus)

Thanks. I will head to the shops to look for Cardbus - to - Ethernet adapter after which I will throw away the idea of using internal modem.
