[SOLVED] Gnome logout kills X (was "How to enable Gnome logon facebook browser...")

Choosing "logout" (the little green running guy in the panel) doesn't log out user or bring up log-on screen.. Instead, it kills X and leaves user with a command line with a prompt for the same user. I hope I'm making sense here.

This happened after I tried to use a png image as the face in the facebook browser in the log-on screen.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks to all.

    *solved* Gnome logout kills X

Somehow GDM quit and since I don't know the command to restart it, I just rebooted (imagine that, rebooting Linux!) and got GDM back, got my log-on screen back.
