I also had issues with Xorg and my Nvidia card in Lenny. The tool that helped me was xrandr. The dpackage-reconfigure functionality for fixing your screen was taken out for reasons I'll never understand.

Nvidia driver ( installed through envy ) didn't work properly and I think "vesa" driver will sort out problem.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

    That did it.
I typed the info above into the xorg.conf through the terminal since for some reason after I rebooted before modifying the xorg.conf X crashed big time and didn't want to load.
This is before I even changed anything.
It seems to have crashed like that completely on its own.
Unless I made changes yesterday and didn't reboot since.

    It's working though.
I used the vesa driver, so I'll probably go in and change it to nvidia but not right now.

Thanks alot for your help on this DC!
    I owe you one.
For some reason now the screen resolution controls don't give me ANY options.
Although the resolution is 1024x768, it doesn't show that as an option.
Both fields in the resolution control applet are completely black.

I'm not worried about it though.
