Proxy via ssh
I've a problem configuring the proxy over ssh.
We tried it from live cd and VMware also.
So we are in a company enviroment and the default proxy doesn't allow package downloads. So we figured out to use ssh tunnel. It's a SOCKS5 ssh tunnel.
We want apt to use this connection to update available packages and download them, so we connected to the tunnel,
$ssh email@example.com -p 22 -D 8080 (also tried with local port forward)
and put this line to /etc/apt/apt.conf
Acquire::http::Proxy "http://user : firstname.lastname@example.org -p 22 -D / L 8080" ;
As we read forums this should enough for apt to work via ssh.
Then tried to find something like Proxifier, and found Dante, which can socksify any application. We set up this app but apt can't connect to the ssh host.
It would be very appreciated if you could provide us some info/clue.
Thank you very much.
