[SOLVED] DVD rom now a CD rom ??
I have Debian etch 4.0r5 installed on a ibm thinkpad r50e and everthing was fine until today.
I have only the default repositories enabled.
machine:
Intel Celeron M 1.4Ghz,
768Mb RAM, (with expansion)
40Gb HDD,
DVD-RW/CDRW,
WIFI etc.
I rebooted and now my dvd's dont read. The machine reports as being a cdrom not a dvdwriter in filemanager but, dmesg reports:
Probing IDE interface ide1...
hdc: , ATAPI cdrom or floppy?, assuming FLOPPY drive
ide1 at 0x170-0x177,0x376 on irq 15
Any ideas how to fix this?
I am using Gnome 2.14.3 build on 15/2/07.
I also don't want any re-install suggestions because i have too much data on the machine for that (i do backup - but getting everything how you like takes forever)
I can follow most console suggestions
