    samba + vista problem!

    Hi,
Unfortunatley I suddenly cannot map a drive from vista machine to my linux box. I dont use it that often so I dont know for definite how long this problem been around. I hope someone can help me with this as I have searched a number of forums and googled and still not found the solution.

I have a NAS device on my network which runs linux(debian). It is connected via a wire to a wireless router. The router wirelessly connects to my desktop PC(running vista) and a laptop(running XP). The problem I think is down to vista as I dont have the problem with my laptop.

I have used the smbclient on the linux box and that also seems OK.

The problem only seemed to occur recently, I think, maybe after an update from windows.

    Please help ...

Please check the firewall settings on VISTA. Try to turn off the firewall on the VISTA end and then attempt to map your drive.

If you are able to map the drive with the firewall turned off, there are ways to allow Samba ports to open.

Samba utilizes the same ports as CIFS and NetBios.
