Compiz, the Intel 4500M and enabling direct rendering.
I am finalling getting around to tweaking my linux desktop on my Aspire 4330 ( Intel 4500M graphics chip ). I'm running lenny with kde 4.2 installed. I have been trying to
run compiz ( after setting SKIP_CHECKS to yes) but it fails because I do not have
xgl or aiglx running.
Trying to se3tup those, I discover ( via glxinfo ) that I do not have direct rendering enabled.
So step 1. How do I enable direct rendering for an Intel 4500M?
( Any other help getting compiz running would be appreciated. )

I'm afraid to tell you that it won't be that easy with Lenny.
I have exactly the same video card and I finally switched to sid to have a better support (good support comes with experimental). The thing you could do with Lenny is to force the use of the intel driver in xorg.conf (in my case the vesa driver was used).
