    Smile Compatible 3g modems?

    Hello,

I am brand new in joining the forums but am a long time reader. I am trying to find a 3g modem that is compatible for my Debian machine. I've looked around and have found some but have no clue whether or not they work with providers here in the us:

    Huawei E220 3G USB
    Bandrich Bandluxe C120

I was wondering if anyone has had experiences with these modems?

    thank you,

    -vlad

All of the Huawei modems are fully supported by open source drivers in the kernel. I'd make sure you are up to date with your Debian system to ensure you are covered driver-wise.

As a side, I'd recommend using NetworkManager if you can. As of version 0.7, not only will it work well with your adapter when you plug it in, it'll even have most of the settings you need ready. I use Ubuntu so I'm not sure about the settings to be honest, but Ubuntu actually prompts you with a list of ISPs for your country with the settings ready to go

On Linux, I have successfully used the huawei e220, e156 and e160. The e169 is supposed to work out of the box as well, but I have never had the chance to test it.
