    You can use a cloning application such as Clonezilla to create images (backups) of your current partitions containing the system and all apps, then if something serious should go wrong with your system, you use your cloning app to restore the partitions so that you will be back to where you were before the problem.

    It's not exactly creating an installation disk, but it works better than that really, if done properly.
