Can you post the output of 'fdisk -l' and the 'mount' command. Run as root. Cheers...

Just run the fdisk -l function again. It is an -l (ell) not a -1 (one). The mount need not be rerun. It shows the partitions on your machine and what type of filesystem is on each partition. Remember to run as root. ie 'su -' with appropriate password. I will be out most of today but I think we can get to the bottom of your problem. Cheers...

As far as the output of the two functions shows, in fact the Partition with the bootable linux (/dev/sda1) is both present and mounted. Please give me some more information to help me understand the exact messages you are getting. Is your system allowing you to open a GUI and where does the error message show up. Glad to help if I can. Cheers...

I do not have much experience, in fact none, with running virtual machines. One suggestion I have is to run an fsck on the filesystem, possibly by booting a live OS. In this way you can, if necessary, repair the filesystem when it is not running. I use SystemrescueCD as it has a ton of goodies included, as a repair disk. Boots from any CD drive.
You can download it from distrowatch.com and burn it on a CD (it is bootable iso). From there boot from it. It loads a RAMFS and allows you to mount any partition and run fsck on them
Not sure that I can be of much more help with the Virtual stuff. Hope this is of some help. Cheers...
