    Ugly gnome and funny-looking Nautilus

    Hello,

I installed Debian 5.0 Lenny again today after I borked my previous installation and did the usual net-install.

These are the steps I took:

    apt-get install xserver-xorg gnome-core gdm gdm-themes irssi iceweasel

I am now writing this from my working desktop via Iceweasel however below is attached a screenshot of how Gnome looks (I assume I can fix this with some themes or such?) and more importantly at this stage... how bare bones Nautilus looks

I would like my nautilus to look something like that of Ubuntu (I have had it look like that on Debian on a previous occasion too if I am not mistaken).

Try installing gnome-themes and gnome-control-center (if not installed) -- and then running gnome-appearance-properties?

Thank you Zeroangel. The themes certainly helped with the glum-looking gnome. I also managed to get my Nautilus problem fixed by ticking the box "Always open in browser windows" in the preferences.
