    Manual desktop resolution?

Hi everyone! I need some help setting up Debian. The problem is like this - on my home PC I use flat panel TV as a monitor. In XP it worked fine with 1024*768 but in Debian I have some parts of the desktop out of the screen about 20-22 pix on the top and bottom. And that makes taskbars virtually invisible. Has anyone experienced anything like that?

    Hi,

first, try to hit Ctrl+Alt+ (plus or minus key on numpad).
This should shuffle through all available resolutions.

Next, once you have assured yourself a proper resolution is available, have a look at
/etc/X11/xorg.conf and see if there are resolutions listed which are too big.

Thanks for your reply! Tried this but it doesn't work at all...
Also I tried different resolutions from Desktop resolution tool but with no luck at all...

For example I change my current 1280*800 to 1280*960 and the actual desktop becomes narower but the 20 pix at the top and the bottom are still outside screen area. Even with 1280*1024 they are still invisible.

Ok, so it's not a problem with the resolution but with the timing of the video signal.

You try the xvidtune tool. It is part of the x11-xserver-utils package.

    Thanks for the help guys!
I found a way how to get around this - installed latest nvidia driver and in nvidia configure tool checked the option "Aspect ratio scaled". Still not absolutely perfect but waaays better than it was before...
