Well, I did a quick google search and as far as I can tell, gnome-power-manager will use devicekit starting in Ubuntu 9.10. Jaunty still uses the old way. If you wanted to use gnome-power-manager with devicekit in Jaunty, you would need to compile it from source and build in devicekit support, or maybe someone has already packaged it with devicekit support somewhere.

I downloaded the "gnome power manger" and when type "./autogen.sh --enable-applets --enable-devkit-power" return :
checking for HAL... configure: error: Package requirements (hal >= 0.5. were not met:

And I downloaded the package hal_0.5.8.1-9etch1_i386.deb but when install return: hal-info conflicts with hal (<< 0.5.10)
hal (version 0.5.8.1-9etch1) is to be installed.

    I'm crazy!

For some reason I thought you were running Ubuntu, but obviously this is in the Debian section.

Um, one thing, you downloaded packages for Etch? Is that what you're running still. That's quite old and would probably be challenging to get running newer software on. You could try running Debian Testing or Unstable if you're committed to using devicekit with gnome-power-manager, or switch to something like Sidux, which is a stabilized Debian Unstable.

I have debian lenny and the configure check need the software with version 0.5.8. I haven't found the unstable or testing package with this version.
    I haven't found the hal-info version 5.10 ....
