    Updating, upgrading problems

Windows Vista, Acer Aspire 3G RAM, 300G HD

I have installed Freespire 2.0.8 into Sun VirtualBox 3.0.8 r53138 . That portion of the installation went well and can access the Internet. I am now trying to install Linux Guest Additions and require installing dkms, headers, builder essentials. I have tried the apt-get command but I’m not sure if that’s the correct command for Freespire? I entered "apt-get update" and it said "connecting to apt2.freespire.org (198.172.200.241).
Then it said there was an error connecting. Then it tried to connect again and kept repeating the connection attempt. I had to close the terminal to get out of it.

The VB manual says "Linux guests must have kernel 2.6.27 and higher as well as X.org server version 1.5 and higher." FreeSpire has kernel 2.6.20-16-lowlatency. That may be a problem. Is it possible to upgrade the freespire kernel to meet the VirtualBox requirement?

Freespire is functionally a dead project. They haven't had a a release in something like two years.

I recommend using a different distro. Linux Mint is a good place to begin.
