I am running gnome on Debian: 2.6.30-bpo.1-686
Will someone recommend a wireless adapter that Debian has built in drivers for?
A HOWTO for the install would be very helpful too.

Desktop or Laptop?
For Laptop I use a wireless G PCMCIA Belkin F5D 7010 ver.6 Carbus with a Raylink chipset.
On My Motorycle Shop wireless Desktop I use a cheap Edimax wireless G ,PCI Card with a raylink chipset.
No drivers need be installed because of RT61 module support in wireless kernel which has the firmare and driver in the kernel. Means you just insert it. Boot up, Use your Network Manager and click on connect wireless

rokytnji - thank you for the advice.
I used to work with UNIX quite a bit but that has been a while ago.
Am attempting to make the jump from MS to Linux (cannot stand MS), but much to re-learn as well as the changes in recent years. I am remembering why I fell in love with vi in the first place though and really appreciate how easy apt-get makes it to get/compile applications in Debian.
Followed your advice and returned usb adatper and put in PCI adapter for my mini-tower and yup! Booted right up, recognized adapter, Gnome Network-Manager recognized network - put in key and was up and running that fast!
Reading your link to Linux Cookbook now.
Thanks Again!
