    home on server + offline

    Hi,

    My network looks like this:
    Lenny Server
    Lenny Client
    MythBuntu Client
    ArchLinux Client
Etch Client (I might upgrade to Lenny).
    All desktops.

I want to move all client home directories onto the server.
But I want to be able to work offline with those files, if the server is not running. And when the server comes online, the files should automatically be synchronized. Something like in WinServer 2003 -WinXP setup.

Especially I want to buy a Laptop (Netbook, more like) with Linux on it. So I want my home directory to be on the server, but I need to work with my docs, when away.

I was wondering if there is some application that can do this, and if there is a gui application is even better.

    Thanks.

Maybe Conduit for Gnome is for you.
Debian GNU/Linux -- You know you want it.

Have u tried to make scripts?, then you should do at login sync with the server if it is online else continue with login proc.

Conduit is nice solution you may run it on each login

Check out the OFS project - Offline Filesystem

    Users routinely copy documents
to their laptops, edit the files
from the road, and save the
changes centrally when they get back to
    the office.
Unfortunately, it is all too easy to lose
files, overwrite changes, or forget which
version is the most recent. Windows provides
an offline file storage option to address
    this problem, and several alternative
tools are also available (see the
    “Similar Approaches” box).
Now a new project brings the offline
storage option to Linux: OFS, the offline
    filesystem
