Debian DVDs
Hello Linux world
I am a new convert and i am now using Debian Lenny. I have managed to down load a cd but it does not have a lot of facilities. I have tried to download the 5 DVDs but my band width has let me down...Is there any place where I can get free copies or anyone generous enough to send me the 5 Debian DVDs. I don't want to give up the Linux Experience...please

Should should tell your location. Maybe some neighbors of you will help you out, but are not willing to ship DVDs across the whole earth.

Welcome to the forums!

Do some searching for any Linux User Groups (LUG) in your local area. You might find a member of your local group that would be willing to burn some DVDs for you, especially if you supply the blank disks. I say might because downloading and burning 5 DVDs is quite a bit of work and can take some time and effort.
Otherwise, there are a number of places that sell them online, burned and ready to be used. I'm not aware of anyone that offers them for free, though. You can get free Ubuntu disks directly from the Ubuntu folks, which of course is a Debian-based distribution.
Best of luck with your search.oz

Walu, What speed and amount of bandwidth do you have? It's generally not necessary to download all 5 DVD's. If you download the first CD not DVD, that will get Debian Lenny installed and working. All the rest is usually just extra programs needed to do certain things. I never download all DVD's or CD's. I get my OS installed and download only what I want, to do what I need to do. Keeps your system more clean!

There is no need to download all 5 DVDs. If you have fair internet connection then you can install any package using apt-get or synaptic.
First installation is enough, imho.It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.
