[SOLVED] Need help finding the appropriate image for my system
Hey guys,
i'm pretty new to the linux world and want to learn it.
Took a pretty old pc from one of my friends who was getting rid of it, and decided to make it into a linux box. Was going to install Debian on it, but need to know which image i need to download and burn to install the OS? i need to burn to cd
going to this site: .debian.org/CD/http-ftp/
This is the PC i want to install it on: (dont know much about the PC since when i got it, it was completely formatted. i think it was dual boot fedora/winXP at one point. This info is from googling 'PowerSpec® 1405')
PowerSpec® 1405
Processor
AMD Sempron™ Processor 2200+
System Board
Biostar M7VIG 400 Pro
System Memory
128MB DDR333 SDRAM 184-pin DIMM
CD-ROM Drive
52x CD-ROM Drive
Video
Integrated VIA ProSavageDDR Graphics Accelerator; open AGP slot
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys

Welcome to the forums!

If you want Debian on your machine, I'd advise that you install it using a netinstall image to get the base system in place, then install only the applications that you really want/need since you only have 128MB of RAM.
Your machine is capable of running the 32-bit or the 64-bit version of Linux:
http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/...86-netinst.iso
http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/...64-netinst.iso
Hope it goes well and you have fun with it.oz

Download CD1 of stable release. Its i386 under stable. If you have access to good internet connections then go for net-install. Xfce Desktop Environment will work much better than others on your machine.
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

If you should run into any issues with your installation attempt, don't hesitate to start a new thread.
