    Wireless connection is unstable/inconsistent

My wireless card works most of the time, however with prolonged usage results in a temporary halt in functionality. I am not sure how to go about diagnosing or solving the problem, and I do not know what information I should be providing.

    your help is much appreciated,

    Heya rev,

Does this happen on all wireless connections, or just one in particular?

I ask because normally my wireless is rock solid but I have found a couple connections(when traveling) that were incredibly problematic and required me to boot into Windows to use wireless.
    Aloof linux user #whatever.

I tested off the charts for MENSA. Unfortunately, it was off the wrong end of the chart.

This happens on all wireless connections that I have used; I believe. I will modify response if I notice otherwise

Is there a chance you could provide us with your wireless device info, driver being used and your particular distro? Without the first two, it would be nothing but blind guesses(my specialty).

The wireless setup sticky has instructions on how to gather all the info about your wireless chipset and drivers loading and such. Also, post the output of
    Code:
    dmesg
It'll be long so make sure and use code tags as described in the wireless sticky.

If I had to make a wager, I would bet you have an atheros based card using the ath5k or ath9k drivers. Probably the Atheros AR242x or AR5001x. At least, these drivers and chipsets have a history of spotty connections. But, to quote Schwim, that's just blind guessing.
