    Angry Debian Update Download Speed

What is the usual download speed for updates to the Debian system using the update option under the Administration tab? I am just getting 4700 B/s, but have 5 Mb/s DSL. Is this due to overload of Debian website?

    Hi and Welcome !

It looks like overload only. Have you tried another mirror?
It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.

you should pick a different mirror that is geographically close to you

I would suggest experimenting with a few until you find one that works well

    Welcome to the forums!

If you haven't done so already, you can install netselect-apt and use it to find the fastest mirrors available to you.

you can use that, but if i remember correctly it only uses latency to figure this out (ping) which isn't that useful

If I remember correctly, there is another app that also supposedly finds the fastest mirrors but I don't recall the name at the moment. Something else worthy of pointing out is that the mirrors closest to you aren't always the fastest either, though you'd think they would be. In my case, I'm in the USA but the European mirrors are always faster than those here. It seems that all mirrors have their moments when they drag along, so perhaps you just caught yours on a bad day.

Either way, best of luck with the updates.
