That Debian Sources List Generator is definitely handy! It made me think of checking my sources.list as it currently stands...and I noticed that the ONLY software repository listed is this:

    deb http :// lenny/updates main
    deb-src http :// lenny/updates main

And they're preceded by # signs. Doesn't that mean they can't be accessed?
Hrm. Yes, it does. So that is definitely a problem.

For part two, what is your graphics card?
    Post the output of
    lspci -vnn
And post the contents of the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf

    Talking oops

    Hey --

Sorry for disappearing on y'all. X( My other, non-computer-related life intruded aggressively into my daily goings-on for a bit. Ehhhhh.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions, but for the moment I've switched my spare computer to Ubuntu and I think I'll stick with that for a bit while I'm so early in my Linux learning process. It seems a bit more user-friendly, and at present I really need something where I can play around with the CLI and a text editor (as opposed to spending more time trying to get it working at all).

So Debian remains a challenge for the (hopefully-not-too-distant) future.

Anyway, thanks again, and I'll surely be back in the Debian Linux Help thread eventually...hehe.
