    no sound and wifi device detcted by debian 5 on laptop asus m50vn

    I m a novice in linux world, and I've installed debian 5, the version of the sell is 2.6.26-1-686:

    1-debian show the sound control panel and the volume control but no soun when playing .avi file

    2-when I tape iwconfig when I am in ROOT mode, it espond:
    lo nowireless extension
    eth0 nowireless extension

    there are all my devices showed by "lspci" command:

    The coffee lounge isn't really the right place for this post.

    Anyway, you need the iwlagn driver, which is fairly new and not present in Debian Stable by default. You'll have to update your kernel and install the firmware.

    Or you can use something like Linux Mint or Ubuntu, in which this card should work out of the box.

    If you like to use GUI then on the menu goto System>Preferences>Sound and Turn everything to ALSA and click test to see if it works. thats how i trouble shot mine.
