    [SOLVED] which CD/DVD images i shoud download?

    there are lots of CD/DVD on the site debian, eg:alpha , amd64, arm..... now i want to install a version on the vmware, which version i should download. any tips would be appreciated.

    Without knowing what kind of computer specs. i386 usually works for everyone.

    thanks for your reply,my notebook is HP541, a personal notebook,i will download the i386 version. the horrible thing is when i open the page to download the i386,there are 31 “debian-504-i386-CD-.iso ”s,should i download them all?

    probably not, the first dvd is most likely all you would need

    i prefer netinstall disc, as it only downloads what i need during install, but this requires a good connection

    Welcome to the forums!

    As coopstah pointed out above, the first DVD should get you going although you might later find that you want or need some packages on other DVDs. It's probably easier to simply download whatever else you want later than to fool with entire DVD downloads.

    Regarding which CD downloads, I've heard different users say they needed different numbers of them. If it were me, I'd download at least CD 1, and CD 2, but you might later find that you need more than that. Again, it's easiest to get the bare minimum, then download any additional additional software later, if that option is available to you.
