Question Old smb server to new smb server

    Hello,
We have one DEBIAN LiNUX server on our network which act LDAP+SAMBA/PDC server.
Nearly 50 windows xp users join samba server with domain.
Because of old system and hardware,we decided to buy 2 new servers.
So we decided to divide our old Debian Linux server to new servers.

we want our new servers act:

    new server1: SAMBA /PDC only

    new server2: LDAP and Email

    Hier What we want to..
1.We install one of our new server with DEBIAN LINUX and on it SAMBA/PDC systems.
    Hier the questions:

How can i install and configure this new samba server, when i shutdown a old SAMBA SERVER,new server functioning like old server.(if user join to new samba server then every think the same like old one.)

If possible step by step guide.

    Thank you so much.

You will need to add the new server as a BDC, then bring the old one down and do a DCPROMO. Basically something like this.

Samba is fairly well documented. At the same time, it is a bit tricky. Everytime I've set up samba its always different and thus makes it very much a headache.

    Chapter*5.*Backup Domain Control

I'd recommend reading chaper 4 as well.

Since your using LDAP, all you really need to do is migrate the ldap database and samba config. If you keep the server name the same, it will just work.

I think I would also setup your new "server 1" to replicate the ldap database from the primary ldap server, even if it's only used for samba.

    Hope that helps
