[SOLVED] unable to open64("/dev/hdg",O_RDONLY): No such file or directory

    Hello all,

I have the following folder on my desktop:

debian-504-amd64-DVD-1 this was extracted from the .iso file I downloaded.

I have attempted to transfer the contents to DVD using the GnomeBaker burning software.

After opening the folder in the burner GUI I transfered the files to the project I opened and proceeded to burn the DVD.

The process failed immediately with the following error:

    ####################

unable to open64("/dev/hdg",O_RDONLY): No such file or directory

    ####################

Is this a GRUB2 configuration problem?

The odd thing is, I had only minutes earlier finished burning copies of the:
    debian-update-5.0.4-amd64-DVD-1.iso and
debian-update-5.0.4-amd64-DVD-1 after I extracted it from the above .iso file.

The above were burnt with no problems and I had not changed anything when I went to burn the other file.

    Regards
    VK5xx

It sounds like you are not burning the ISO file to the disk as an image.

Check this HowTo for all the steps needed to properly download and burn and ISO file to a disk as an image:

    http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/ins...ll-cd-dvd.html

Be sure you don't extract the files from the ISO, don't simply copy the ISO file to the DVD, and don't make the disk bootable because the ISO burning process does all that automatically.

    Hello ozar,

    Thank you for responding.

I suspected I did not do the correct procedure. The error message confused me and I went looking for answers to it. I will read the how to steps later in the morning.

I 'm starting to nod off here, it's 0150 hours in Adelaide South Australia.

I'll let you know how I got on with burning the discs later today.

    Kind Regards,
    VK5xx

    Hello Ozar,

I am now running 64bit Debian5, thanks for the the link to Dylunio's tutorial.

K3B is an excellent burning application. Up til now I incorrectly assumed it only worked on a KDE desktop and not on Gnome.

    Regards,
    VK5xx
