Upgrade problem from etchnhalf to lenny.

OK here goes --> Many months back, I installed etchnhalf by using netinst. Yesterday, I decided to upgrade to lenny. As widely told by umpteen sites on the internet, I changed all instances of etch to lenny in my sources.list, and ran an aptitude update followed by full-upgrade.

On running the version command, it still shows etchnhalf 2.2.24. I'm sure I've followed the instructions correctly. So what may be the problem ?

My guess is that version just prints the contents of files like /etc/issue, etc/debian_release, /etclsb-release (and perhaps others), and that these have not been updated, although the system may have been.
You could have a look in /var/log/aptitude or /var/log/dist-upgrade/* to check.
