installation debian failed: cannot install grub bootloader

We need a linux server for NFS

I installed debian on an IDE pc without problems.

Now I want to install debian (or ubuntu) on a server with an acceleraid 352 raidcontroller.

But he can't install the grub bootloader (i think that he doesn't recognize the disks). Also the lilo bootloader installation fails.

    How can I fix this?

Few years back I installed debian on a server with raid.

I remember that /boot MUST be on a raid1 (or on a single partition with no raid), NOT on a raid5.

    Otherwise the system wont boot.
