    Progeny Debian 2.0 (Componentized Linux)

    Hi All,

I've read the news about the new RC of Progeny Debian 2.0, now I do understand that this is a platform based linux to build a distro for a specific branche/goal out of so called 'components'.

I still want to ask if this Progeny 2.0 (when it will be released) can be used as a desktop OS..because of the anaconda installer, Gnome as a base-GUI (which I like a lot!) and many more things..so..could it?

    any answer/opinion/advice is appreciated!

    thnx in advance!

In answer to your question about Progeny....

Yes, you can use it as a desktop OS, or as a developer's platform. I currently have RC1 installed on a swappable hd, still trying to get my sound to work, however.

I havent been able to work with it. And I have too many distros already in hand (Yoper, Libranet, Ubuntu, MEPIS and now Kanotix)

But Kanotix only works on my Amd Athlon XP-M 2800+ Laptop, not on my Linux Box Desktop Celeron 634mhz. I am also a newbie

I use Kanotix 9A on the same machine. Kanotix is a great distro, even if it is still in testing phase. I am running an AMD T-bird 1.0Ghz home-built machine with a dvd-rom, cd burner, 768MB RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce3 Ti200 128MB agp card. P.D. RC1 loaded and works great, except for the sound at the moment, which is a Creative SBLive! 5.1 card. Apt-get works right out of the box, except almost all it's sources are from the Sarge and Woody line.

    works great

have it installed right now, and it works fast and stable.

its the only 2.6 kernel linux i've tried that detects my USR modem (ttyS4) on 2.4 kernels. it seems to have great hardware detection, and has converted me from kde to gnome (something that i never thought would happen. even ubuntu and mepis didn't auto find my modem (neither did mandrake 10.1 which i had installed for about 3 hours until i went insane)

i think its a great desktop.

aside, the progeny.com website seems to be down or ??? cannot access it for the last week.
    anyone know what is up??
