Debian on iMAC 233/333 Rev X

    Hi everyone,

I have decided to try an breathe new life into my kids old iMacs since they have been in the basement for years and I really did love the screens on these things.

I downloaded the Debian network iso image recommended from Distro Watch and replaced the old 6 G disk that had OS9 (after I trashed the partition table ) with an old 40 G IDE in my first victim (note 3 iMacs to convert).

I felt that I would get more out of this than trying to go to OSX Panther and my kids seem to be able to flow easily between Windows, OSX, Ubuntu and Puppy Linux on the various test machines that I have around the house to do their school work.

I was able to get DEB on the box just fine (after I figured out how to partition in properly ) but my distro boots directly into Gnome (gdm) and gives me a black screen. It is not crashed, I just can't see any thing and need to know what key combinations will kill X on the iMac so that I can fix the video?

    Thanks,

    Eunix
