Which Debian?
I'd like to try Debian on my Dell Latitude d-620, but I'm not sure which distro to download, the i386 or the amd64. Can someone tell me what the difference is? Thank you much. Jim

You can download and install either one. You have 64bit architecture but i386 will work just as well since you only have 2 gig of ram and Intel Core Duo.
amd64 just means a 64 bit operating system which you have. 64 bit takes advantage if you upgrade the ram later to like 6 gig.
i386 is good for like up to 4 gig of ram.
Processor speed difference is not noticable to the naked eye between the 2.
I run I686, 64 bit, and i386 and can't see no speed difference between any of them. Up to you though. Any will run.Linux Registered User # 475019

Ubuntu 10.04 vs Debian
OK. Thanks. I think I'll try i386.
I'm having some trouble with Ubuntu 10.04. Do you think Debian is any better, or is it just a matter of personal preference?

Regarding Debian vs Ubuntu
Adding a quick note to the above, they just released Debian 6.0 a few minutes ago, so that might be fun to play with.
