the apt-get system is just like slapt-get or swaret.
for example, if you wanted to install mozilla you would just do
and it will install mozillaapt-get install mozilla
there are there releases of debian. Unstable (sid), testing (sarge), and stable (woody). Stable is just that, stable, but it is only updated every 1.5 years, so it is not cutting edge. testing is updated more often, and unstable is "the wild version".
