The system appears to be outdated (Debian stable?).

Second, I would suggest you quit Yahoo mail. There's a feature in it by which you can forward mails to other accounts... I suggest you use that with your gmail account.

Yahoo mail only Supports Windows, they ignore everything else, and I think the service provider should be taught a lesson by the quitting the service completely.

A question: Can you read your yahoo mail manually from the browser?

If you can't - update the browser.
The suggestion to update the OS is not to be discard as well.

Yahoo Classic is the way to go, just click through the warning message the first time you access it. I've been running MEPIS 8.0 (KDE3.5) for years. I like the Classic look better, and it doesn't load down my (single core) cpu the way the current standard Yahoo!Mail does. I'm reluctant to even try the new version.

For what it's worth, I've just managed to install Fedora 14 on my Toshiba Satellite Pro (running off a memory stick), and get on line WITHOUT any serious problems. Any diificulties were caused by Window$. After reading the posts above, I was worried I might have problems accessing my Yahoo mail - but so far everything is fine at present.

Yahoo recently upgraded their UI. I have an account that I go to the Yahoo site and log into, and another that I subscribed to as a POP account and I read using Thunderbird.

This is all on my Ubuntu 10.10.

Try and open Yahoo mail beta... it'll ask for internet explorer... it doesn't even support Firefox + Yahoo mail always recommends IE 8.

The official Yahoo chat client is not available for Linux in fact, there's absolutely no support for anything opensource related with Yahoo. All they know is to get their job done using Opensource software and not give anything back.

In this scenario using and recommending the services of a company which tries to crush openosurce is surely not a good idea.

That's really strange that it doesn't work for you. I am running Firefox (4 now after upgrading but it worked before as well) and am using Yahoo's newest Beta and have no problems.

For Yahoo chat do you mean the instant messenger? I just use Pidgin and it works fine.

It appears they transformed the old yahoo mail beta to the one that you see now... well, that old one exclusively asked for IE, and wont open in anything else.

Point is Yahoo (unlike Google) does not provide a proper IM for Linux. Infact, I'll be favoring the company which has the most contribution towards the opensource market and Yahoo is definitely not that, and that's the probable reason why Microsoft was willing to buy it, unfortunately they did't have enough money.
