Question Computer shuts off suddenly while booting

Computer starts to boot, and then shuts off suddenly without warning.

Computer is not overheating, and all the fans seem to be working.

Using the latest updated Debian Stable here, though it crashes like this in single-user mode, when using an Ubuntu LiveCD, and when booting into the recovery mode on the Debian CD as well.

Runs memtest86+ without crashing, and the memory tests pass just fine.

edit: tried booting with the acpi=off option, to no avail. The Ubuntu LiveCD crashes before getting to the menu sometimes, other times it makes it to the menu.

Does it have enough power? Did you recently upgrade any hardware components to something a bit more modern, but leave it running on an old 250W PSU? Could your power supply be on its last legs? Does this only happen while booting from CD? Is your CD drive over-stretching your power supply?

No, the computer hardware has not changed since it has been running for the last year.

No, it does not only crash when booting from CD, as it has had Debian Stable running on it.
