Linux noob with Bare Bones CD
I am a Linux noob. I have been using Ubuntu Lucid [LTS] for a couple of months. All is well there, so far.
I have just downloaded and installed Debian Squeeze... now it turns out to be a bare-bone CD, only command line and no GUI.
I have decide to stick with it and learn to use it as it is and where it is. By the way I had no problems with installation. Debian boots.
Like I said I am a Linux Noob and I need help with my Debian Bare Bones. I don't know how to move ahead. I want to start with installing some GUI, like X Windows (or any other if better), gnome or xfce (preferably xfce, I already have gnome with Ubuntu) and definitely a login interface like gdm or xdm (Help me choose).
Also I need help with my "auto eth0", I don't know if I need Internet to install the said GUIs. If yes then please help me connect too.
I would appreciate and be grateful for all the help I can get.
Regards...

Hello and welcome aboard!

Unless they've changed things, the following command should still work for installing the X windows system from the command line under Debian:
You can check the Debian documentation pages for more on installing, configuring, and working with Debian:Code:apt-get install x-window-system
Debian -- Documentationoz
