I have little to no experience with setting up a scanner on a linux machine. I'm running mint 10 Julia and the default scanning software doesn't recognize my scanner, neither does XSane, which was recommended to me.

My scanner is a Scanmaster 8700 and it's a little finicky to get going but once it's on I leave it on so I don't have to deal with the crap to get it started. works great on windows. the calibration application that came with it doesn't work or (most likely) I don't know how to use it right but the default windows scanner and camera wizard works fine scanning images.

Now I'm trying to use it on my linux machine for convenience.

Does anyone have experience with XSane or Using a Scanmaster on a linux machine. Even Scanner knowledge on linux would be nice.

yes yes I'm not very fluent in linux quite yet but thats why I thought I would register at this forum. I don't register at many forums

THANKS
