    Question Wireless Connection Issue

I have two computers running Ubuntu, and one's wireless stopped working, the other works. I have windows installed alongside ubuntu(well, visa versa since Windows was first). Everything was working fine, until this morning. I boot up my computer, and there is a big red icon in top right of screen, so i right click it, and it has the option to update. So i update. And it removed some files, and installed some.

There is no wifi button in top right. Just three ---, only going vertically. I try to connect via terminal with commands
    ifconfig wlan0 up
    iwlist wlan0 scan
and there is when i get error. It displays my connection name, but when it gets to IE, a bunch of errors display. I need help. Thanks.

I also am trying to uninstall Ubuntu(i have 10.10) and reinstall it. How do i remove it?

Again, there is NO wirelss icon, and when i am plugged in via ETHERNET cable, still, internet doesnt work. Help?

Im not sure if i am running debian, i am a noob at linux, just installed it other day, but i am running Maverick Meerkat 10.10 Linux.
    help plz

    Well...

These are two totally different questions

Lets start with the re-installing. Are you going to re-install ubuntu on the computer that the internet isn't working properly on?

If so, then this may get rid of the internet problem.

Basically just re-installing ubuntu is just doing the exact same thing you did to install it to begin with. Your just going to re-install it over top of the old partitions, which will reformat it for you and make a clean new install of the same OS.

Here is a video showing you step by step as to what to do in your case (re-installing over top of your OS) -->YouTube - ‪How-to Re-Install Ubuntu Linux 10.10 or 10.04 to Upgrade or Downgrade Linux Tutorial‬‏

Now, if your internet still doesn't work (does it work on Windows still? {if its the same computer that has windows in dual-boot}) then it's more than likely your cable connection, wireless card, your PC's network card, or corrupted TCP/IP.

    If it's your cable, then:

    1. 1. Check the other end of cable, and/or switch it to another spot to see if its connected properly and the other spots aren't working too
    2. 2. If both ends are connected properly. there could be propblem in your RJ-45 pin,
    3. so cut the cable at ends and crimp it again with same colour code on new Pin. (if necessary)

TIP: When you connect cables always keep them loose and flex without any tension, this will help you to overcome connectivity problems in future.

Try all this first, then if no prevail we can move onto the rest.

I think the problem is with your internet connection, check the cables and modem
and if everything is fine then go for other alternatives
