    AntiX 8.5 Help Please

    Guys!

I installed it in a friends old PC in her office and now that she is about to resign and was cleaning her files, she accidentally deleted the Desktop folder. I told her to go to trash but we can't seem to find any trash folder. Not even in .local/share

Can I please ask if somebody can suggest anything so that I can help her recover her files? I mean aside from Parted Magic which would be a last resort for me.

    Thank you.

How did she delete it ? Using rox or pcmanfm? Might have to boot AntiX live cd and reinsert Desktop from it. Use antixcc (crossed wrenches in icewm taskbar) and use drives tab to mount installed antix (Slitaz Mountbox). Just copy over the Desktop from live CD to installed system.

Wondering also if you can just Make a new folder named "Desktop" and that will suffice as well maybe.

Edit: Just realized you said recover her files. I am not on my AntiX netbook right now. Did not realize she may have files stored in Desktop folder either. Will have to wait for later.
    Sorry.

I have not used this. Know nothing about it. Might be a option instead of using parted magic.

So, there is nothing in /home//.local/share/Trash/files/ either, huh?

Yep! Nothing ~/home/.local/share/NO TRASH here, only VLC and another stuff. Will take a look at the link you sent. Thanks rok...

My 3 folders are empty. I delete files using rox mostly. I also use thunar on here which by default does not delete everything completely unless you tell it to. Might think of installing thunar also so as to avoid this kind of problemin the future. This is in my AntiX 8.5 i686 core iso install with LXDE whichhas pcmanfm, rox, and thunar.

Curious if you have an external drive large enough to make an image of the drive in the old PC? That would be my first recommendation. mount it -r (read-only) then try scanning it with foremost, etc.

How critical are the files? From "Would like to have" to "Must have", How would she rate them?

    Hello guys!

Thank you so much for your suggestions and concerns. My friend just decided to do it the practical way . She opened all her emails and downloaded all the attachments and was able to get 90% of what she needed to recover.

But most of all, I'm pretty sure she would never dare work again on a computer without making back-ups of important files

    Again, Muchas gracias!
