    unable to do ssh sometimes

    Hi!,

I am using Debian etch (2.6.18 kernel version in one of the server. This machine is installed 3 years back and it was running fine. Now-a-days, 50% of the time, I am not able to do ssh to this server from my workstation.

I confirmed there is no issue with network or firewall settings, because I am able to reach the remaining server in the same network series. Sometimes, I am able to reach the server through ssh.

What may be the issue?, Pleae kindly help me to resolve this issue.

    Thanks!.

just a few months ago I had a similar problem, all www access OK but NO SSH
    after long search first
    /etc/iptables.conf
then more search = until I found an entry in
    /etc/hosts.deny
    that contained my own IP
so any of the default system tools (may be number of max allow connections or so) has auto-created that entry

if any of above is the cause then whitelisting would be the solution
