    USB Webcam & Mic - Debian Squeeze

    I have a HP Webcam & Microphhone for connectiing to Skype, but the Mic won't work.
    I have sound in that I can hear sound files.
    To try and solve the problem, I have downloaded all sorts of sound Utilities from and not one of them has helped.

    Can you please assist

    Are you using the most recent release of Debian?
    Has the mic ever worked?
    You indicate you have downloaded sound utilities from "" but don't say from where. Best to download from repositories if you can. Have you googled Debian hardware compatibility list? Some details on what you have tried might help someone to help you. I don't use Debian myself so probably won't be much help.
