Folks: recently I tried several times to upgrade D6/KDE 4.4 using synaptic. After every upgrade, it won't boot into KDE. It gives me a blank screen, which I /think/ is TVM gui or something such.

I recently tried to reinstall my netbook with the same, to clear up some odd problems. Same problem.

First I installed D6/KDE 4.4 though a D6.020 iso (current version)

Then added my standard sources.lst, did a apt-get update to load the packages.

Then had problems, found out all you need to do is apt-get update then upgrade. Worked fine.

Installed Synaptic via apt-get install synaptic.

Then installed the following via synaptic

Java jre
ttf-mscorefonts-installer
MC
TCL8.4
tcl-tls
TK
fuse-utils
ffmpegthumbs
dolphin-plugins

rebooted, now KDE isn't even in the KVM.

I'm installing Debian 5.02/KDE 3.5 on the netbook because I'm under a deadline and need a working computer. So what's going on? Is there a simple fix? I can't upgrade my main system yet. I have to re-load it via an image to fix it.
