    USB memory stick mounting

Hello all, This is my first post in the forums. I am a college student that has been using Ubuntu for 3 years and then I just decided to try Debian. At first, after Debian squweze installed I was very pleased at its performance and started using it on a regular basis, untill I had to get some files from a USB memory stick. I thought it would mount automatically as in ubuntu, but to my surprise, it has been imposible to me. Is it there a way to automatically mount a USB memory stick in debian at all?

Thanks, any help would be very appreciated since I have been all around the web to find a solution before getting back to ubuntu or maybe linux mint.

What WM or DE have you installed?

If you did a fairly standard install with gnome you should have USB flash automounting via nautilus and gnome volume manager. Does your usb device show up in nautilus when mounted? Is it mounting at all and if not have you tried mounting it?

Is your user in the correct groups for automounting removable media?
    Code:

Hello cynwulf: I think I did a fairly standard install with gnome, from a debian sqweeze 64bit netinstall iso downloaded from the Debian site and loaded in a USB memory stick using unetbootin.

Everything worked out nof the box except auto mounting USB memory sticks as any other distro does. My laptop is a simple Compaq CQ60 with Celeron processor and 2Gig. RAM.
Somewhere else I rode that it could be due to a Debian bug that expects the USB to be CDRom and to fix it you should change a line in /etc/fstab, but the system denies me the access even when logged as Root. I like the distro very much, performs smoothly and fast, but not being able to mouint USB memory sticks is definitely a drawback.

Thanks for your quick reply, can it be somehow fixed?

Hi nunjinini: I saw the thread you mentioned and it seems to be for mounting a partition on a HDD. I do not know if the process is the same for auto mounting a USB memory stick. What I really want is to be able to use USB memory sticks as you do in other distros, like ubuntu, linux mint, fedora, or even windows; you just plug'em in and you can navigate its contents right away, can it be done?

    Thanks.
