Try to find Debian with old kernel version

    Dear everybody,

    Currently, I try to install NIST Net (snad.ncsl.nist.gov/nistnet/install.html) but It is recommended to install on very old kernel versions: 2.0.xx (2.0.27 - 2.0.39), 2.2.xx (2.2.5 - 2.2.1, 2.4.xx (2.4.0 - 2.4.1 and 2.6.xx (up to around 2.6.11) level kernels

Could you tell me where I can find old Debian iso files?

    Thank you very much

I've never heard of this program, but to get a kernel 'old enough' you would need to install sarge, which is now very out of date and not at all recommended.

    Index of /debian-cd/3.1_r5/i386/iso-cd

You may get away with etch which I think uses a 2.6.18 kernel.

    Index of /debian-cd/4.0_r7/i386/iso-cd

As I said, running out of date releases is not recommended as they have stopped getting security updates. So if you are going to run this as i.e. a webserver or even a router that would be a very bad idea.

You may be better off installing a minimal squeeze first and seeing if you can build it on that.

    Thank you very much.

I have just installed Debian 3.1_r5 but it can only run text mode. Morever, when I type "apt-get install x-window-system gdm gnome", the error message is: "Couldn't find package x-window-system". I think it is because it repositories is too old.

Do you know available repositories for Debian 3.1?
OR: please help me where I can download old Debian with GUI?

    Once again, thank you

You need to use the archive mirrors:

    http://archive.debian.org

Set the release to the codename, i.e. sarge, not use stable.
