how do I share a folder in linux

    Hi All.

I have to make a folder available for access from a network device.

I have created a folder as root, verified that the read/write permissions are drwxrwxrwx, and that I can access the folder. However, the network device is not able to access it.

Is there something else I have to do, or have I done everything correctly?

    Regards

It would depend on how you are going to share and with what other operating systems. The two common ways are NFS and Samba. I believe Samba would be required if sharing with Windows clients.

    Rather good NFS tutorial
    Samba tutorial

In both cases, I doubt I could make them any clearer.
