    Question Audio issue: no sound on (s)MPlayer nor Flash.

    I've recently had to buy a new computer, and I'm trying to set it up to work like the old one did. I'm currently having some trouble with the sound.

    I can hear sounds on applications like Pidgin and Dragon Player, but not on MPlayer, nor any Flash videos.

    I tried playing an MP3 with MPlayer and this was the output:

    Code:
    Opening audio decoder: [mp3lib] MPEG layer-2, layer-3
    AUDIO: 44100 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 256.0 kbit/18.14% (ratio: 32000->176400)
    Selected audio codec: [mp3] afm: mp3lib (mp3lib MPEG layer-2, layer-3)
    The time counter moved, but there was no sound. I may be missing one or more codecs, in which case I would appreciate a tip on which ones/where to download them. If that is not the problem, then I don't know what it may be.

    The weirdest thing is that a video I converted with MEncoder has sound, but only if I view it with Dragon Player.

    Follow-up: I followed the recipe found here and I got sound in Flash. MPlayer worked for a bit too, but then I got the following error:

    Code:
    [AO_ALSA] alsa-lib: dlmisc.c:236:(snd1_dlobj_cache_get) Cannot open shared library /usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so
    [AO_ALSA] Playback open error: No such device or address
    Failed to initialize audio driver 'alsa'
    I installed libasound2-plugins and now the error has changed to:

    Code:
    [AO_ALSA] alsa-lib: pulse.c:229:(pulse_connect) PulseAudio: Unable to connect: Internal error

    [AO_ALSA] Playback open error: Connection refused
    Failed to initialize audio driver 'alsa'
    ...And the MP3 file somehow plays, but the sound stops at a different time each time I play it. Now I'm really puzzled.

    Edit: I channed the contents of asound.conf to just:

    Code:
    pcm.pulse {
        type pulse
    }
    ctl.pulse {
        type pulse
    }
    Then restarted and now it works!
