Debian Linux Mail Server and Linux Firewall not allowing SQL Server

I am having a problem with setting up a new SQL Server. I want to run emails from Sage 1000 and Reporting Services however I always get an smtp error when trying to do so.

We have a Linux Debian Mail Server and Firewall in place. I have made all the possible amendments to both them and the SQL Server to allow emails out, however have had no success.

Is there anything anyone can think of that could be causing the problem?

    Thanks

    Hello,

You need to make sure you allow inbound connections for SMTP for RELATED,ESTABLISHED states, because SMTP is over TCP, which is stateful. If your firewalls are set to outright deny all inbound SMTP, the tcp handshake will never be completed, and the mail will never be sent.

    iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --sport 25 -m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT

You could also restrict this to specific IPs, or what have you, but the above should be all you need to get it working.
