    problem building a driver

hello, i hope that the title is not too generic. i googled and searched alot but didn't find anything. when i try to configure my wacom driver with
    #./configure --prefix=/usr --libdir=/usr/lib
i get (along with a lot of other stuff) this:
    checking for doxygen... no
configure: WARNING: doxygen not found - documentation targets will be skipped
checking for rint in -lm... yes
    checking for XORG... no
configure: error: Package requirements (xorg-server >= 1.7.0 xproto xext kbproto inputproto randrproto) were not met:
    No package 'xext' found
Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.
Alternatively, you may set the environment variables XORG_CFLAGS
and XORG_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.
xext, as it is part of x11proto-xext-dev, at least as far as i understand from reading different posts by users experiencing similar problems, is installed.

anyone can help out? i'm a beginner to linux, so please not too much mumbo jumbo^^

you may have xext installed, but the compiler is probably looking for the xext header files.

i'm not familiar w/Debian, but there is hopefully a package in repo that contains these files. use apt-get search or whatever to look for xext-devel or something like that.
